POEM: Flight Atheist

Against reason I sit,
palms damp,
on another jet, waiting for take-off.

When a single fork, magazine, watch,
pair of glasses, suitcase, businessman
can not levitate,
even if hurled,
how then 99 tons of aluminum,
steel, plastic, rubber, fuel,
forks, magazines, watches,
glasses, suitcases, businessmen?

No, I do not believe in aeronautics.
Why do I persist in putting myself
at the mercy of this miracle?
