PHOENIX MEMORABILIA: Rice paddle

Close-up
I inherited this huge rice paddle, carved with the famous Miyajima torii, without inheriting the story of how we came to have it. Obviously someone bought it on Miyajima Island. It is about three feet tall. It comes up to my waist.
I have never had occasion to cook this much rice at one time.

Here comes Sudoku, after her mouse. I'm losing my concentration. Those are my feet.

Sudoku, you are NOT Phoenix memorabilia!
You weren't even ON the Phoenix!.

Sigh.

REYNOLDS MEMORABILIA: Earle and the Sumo Wrestler

Here's my father the staid professor (5'10") with Taiho Koki (born May 29, 1940), the "greatest sumo wrestler of the post-war period," who won 32 tournaments between 1960 and 1971. This would have been taken about 1961, the year Taiho attained yokozuna, the highest rank in professional sumo.
